I am a web content manager and webmaster with 8 years’ experience. I am passionate about great content and I love learning various web technologies.
I am currently working on cycleireland.ie, a platform to showcase cycle route guides online in unparalleled depth to make it easier for cyclists to explore the country on day trips and longer rides. I am planning a major product launch in April.
Ireland is a fantastic country to ride in thanks to a combination of quiet roads and great scenery. One of the biggest obstacles to enjoying it is the lack of signage. My guides give turn-by-turn directions and important local information in the cyclists pocket.
8 years’ content experience across the marketing, retail, games and travel industries. I have been involved in four startups.

I love what I do – creating outstanding content on the web. I enjoy the variety and the ability to build something outstanding over a period of time. A web designer builds a site and moves on; a content manager builds a site up and stays with it. I love the fact that the web as an entity can be improved on for infinity. I love the satisfaction that a logical, enjoyable and interesting website can provide people. I thrill at how passionate people can be about incredibly niche topics, and provide wonderful information about them on the web.
I have worked in 4 online startups and have learned from each one.
In my spare time I love to cycle and have done so since watching Stephen Roche and Sean Kelly as a child. I have cycled in 9 countries and love climbing hills. Every climb has a different character. Some are mean, some are boring, some are thrilling and some just defy description. My favourite ride so far was on the l’Iseran in the French Alps.
Born in Cork, Ireland, I graduated with a journalism degree from Dublin City University in 2002. I joined my first start-up in 2005. Top-up Club was an online marketing program backed by Alphyra aimed at prepaid phone users.
I was lucky to get to work with a fantastic team of people in my first online role and later joined Buy4Now, a retail website development company and online shopping mall. I really enjoyed working in retail and learned a huge amount in a company that has been successful from inception and continues to be so. After 18 months there I joined their sister company, Survivor Games Limited, which launched a variation on fantasy sports games called kingpundit.com. The idea has since been copied elsewhere. I was made redundant due to funding difficulties after almost a year, and the site closed down soon after.
I then joined Ireland.com for 3 years (the URL has since been sold to Tourism Ireland). After that the entrepreneur in me took over. I completed a hobby site, traveltoanewcountry.com. It is designed to explore the concept of countries and non-countries as holiday destinations and to show people that everywhere is a valid destination choice for someone. I want to challenge people’s preconceptions. I love to travel, and I love to travel to new places. I hope that the site encourages other people to do so too.
Oh, and why do I blog twice a month? Because this is an extremely niche topic, and continually posting will too easily lead to a dilution of the purpose of the blog. And Cycle Ireland is the main focus of my attention for the next few months. Perhaps in the future I will switch to weekly posting, but not right now.
